Hixny is one of the nation's most successful health information exchanges (HIEs). Founded by healthcare stakeholders in New York's Capitol Region in 1999, we traditionally served providers, residents and visitors accessing healthcare between Canada and New York City, and from Binghamton into Vermont.
As a New York State qualified entity (QE), our nonprofit HIE serves as a conduit for information flowing in and out of the Statewide Health Information Network for New York (SHIN-NY) under the guidance of the New York State Department of Health's eHealth Collaborative (NYeC)

NCQA Data Aggregator Validation
Since 2021, clinical data moving through Hixny has undergone a rigorous validation process through NCQA to ensure accuracy and usability. This allows healthcare providers and health plans to use data from Hixny as standard supplemental data for annual HEDIS® reviews and other quality programs.
In recent years, this validation has saved payers and providers millions of dollars in staff hours and administrative costs. Hixny automatically accompanies new connections through source validation during onboarding—this includes mock primary source verification, workflow assessments, and quality improvement efforts.
A word about patient consent
To share or view each patient's information through Hixny (as your QE), you need to confirm their consent to share that information electronically. Nearly 95 percent of adults asked for consent grant it.
Most facilities request consent during the check-in process and gather the necessary signature on an electronic signature pad. We can offer a customized form for you to use with your patients if you prefer a paper option, and patients can also withdraw their consent using a form we can provide. Because information flows directly from your EHR to Hixny and is accessible to all providers on your patients' care teams, please update information that's been incorrectly entered in your patients' records. Many Hixny users do this during their routine intake workflow.
